Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a better future. This simple idea has been at the heart of Mita's work in Ivory Coast for the past four years. Mita is a pioneer in leveraging the power of business and markets to create sustainable pathways out of poverty.
The low-income communities in which Mita works are full of hard-working people. Their small-scale farms are the keys to economic development. But they face many challenges: low literacy, lack of access to jobs and markets, unpredictable political dynamics and, increasingly, the effects of climate change. For many women and young people, the challenges are even more daunting.
Thus, MITA's mission is to empower these smallholder farmers in remote areas in Cote d'Ivoire to establish sustainable livelihoods, find their way out of extreme poverty and catalyze change in their rural communities. The organization envisions a future in which every smallholder farmer family has the knowledge and means to achieve big harvests, support healthy families and prosper with dignity.
