Formed in 1984, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) is one of a mere handful of professional full-time companies worldwide dedicated to jazz dance and music.
DJD shows incorporate live jazz music whenever possible and attract over 25,000 people in Calgary annually. DJD employs 7–14 full-time dancers and has toured across Canada, to Chicago, Japan, Turks & Caicos, and Cuba.
DJD has enriched the lives of over 260,000 students through our many Arts in Education programs including bursaries for children from low-income families, school touring and residencies. Our School has over 1,000 students ages 2-82 enrolled in recreational and pre-professional classes.
DJD has a solid record of fiscal responsibility and sustainability. The company has operated in the black since 1996. Our annual operating budget has grown from $425,000 in 1986 to our current level of $2 million. DJD’s operations are financed through earned revenues (49%), fundraising (34%) and government grants (17%).
