To protect the welfare and dignity of all cats in every stage of their life through TNR (trap-neuter/spay-release) programs, proper medical care-both physically and mentally- and adoption, foster and sanctuary programs for our wild and peaceful feline friends. Our highly effective programs are reducing the number of stray, abandoned, and unwanted cats in our community.
TNR (trap-neuter/spay-release: Cat Care's TNR program helps control the overpopulation of feral cats and provides vaccinations to stop the spread of disease and unnecessary suffering. The TNR program also offers a place where friendly feral cats and kittens can be socialized, cared for, and introduced to potential adopters who will provide them with loving, permanent homes.
Adoption: Adoptions are crucial to Cat Care Durango’s mission. Placing cats and kittens into loving and committed homes ensures they have the chance to live happy, healthy lives while opening space for us to rescue and care for more animals in need. While cats await adoption, Cat Care Durango provides full veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and treatment for illness or injury.
Senior & Special Needs Cat Sanctuary: Cat Care Durango serves as a sanctuary for senior cats and those with advanced medical needs. While every cat in our care is available for adoption, some may be overlooked by potential adopters due to medical conditions or terminal illnesses requiring ongoing or lifelong care. These special felines, whom we lovingly call our “Sanctuary Cats,” have a permanent place with us, where they will receive the love, comfort, and medical attention they deserve for the rest of their lives.
Good Health and Well-Being: Cat Care Durango supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Good Health and Well-Being by promoting both animal and human welfare. By providing medical care, rehabilitation, and a safe environment for abandoned or at-risk cats, the sanctuary reduces the spread of disease, prevents suffering, and improves the overall health of the local animal population. At the same time, its adoption and community outreach programs foster emotional well-being for people, offering companionship, reducing stress, and encouraging responsible pet ownership. In this way, the sanctuary strengthens the bond between humans and animals while advancing healthier, more compassionate communities. Sustainable Cities and Communities: Cat Care Durango contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Sustainable Cities and Communities by reducing the number of stray and abandoned cats, which supports healthier and more balanced urban environments. Through programs like trap-neuter-return (TNR), adoption, and sanctuary care, the rescue helps manage cat populations humanely while fostering safer, cleaner neighborhoods. By engaging the community through education and volunteer opportunities, the rescue strengthens social responsibility and builds a model of compassionate, sustainable coexistence between people and animals in cities and towns. Life on Land: Cat Care Durango advances the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Life on Land by protecting vulnerable cat populations while promoting balance within local ecosystems. Through efforts like trap-neuter-return (TNR) and responsible adoption programs, our organization prevents overpopulation and reduces the strain on wildlife caused by unmanaged feral colonies. By providing lifelong care for cats that cannot be rehomed, the sanctuary safeguards their welfare while also educating the public about coexistence, and responsible pet ownership. In doing so, it helps preserve ecological integrity and fosters a healthier relationship between people, animals, and the land they share.
