CAMBRIDGE AND DISTRICT HUMANE SOCIETY

We are a non-profit organization which receives no government or municipal financial assistance. We rely solely on the generosity of the public and corporations to help us with our daily needs. Arriving each day at the shelter are animals in need of love and attention. Without your support these animals could not receive the care needed, and would remain homeless. Our website is updated daily with pictures and descriptions of all adoption animals, which has helped us to decrease the amount of time an animal is waiting at the shelter before they find their "forever" new home.

THE FARLEY FOUNDATION

The Farley Foundation subsidizes necessary veterinary care for the pets belonging to low income seniors and homes, persons with disabilities, Ontario Works recipients & abused women (OVMA SafePet Program). Eligibility criteria includes: Seniors receiving GIS, persons with disabilities receiving the ODSP or CPP Disability, Ontario Works recipients, pets belonging to seniors' care facilities, and women at risk of abuse*. Applications for funding are made by veterinary clinics. The Farley Foundation is the charitable arm of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, which covers most of the Foundation's overhead costs (e.g., staffing, office space rental). This charity pays tribute to one of Canada's most famous pets, Farley the Old English sheepdog from Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse® comic strip. Lynn generously allows the Foundation to use Farley's image to promote the Foundation's good work. Visit www.farleyfoundation.org for full eligibility criteria.

NORTHERN LIGHTS WILDLIFE SOCIETY

The Northern Lights Wildlife Society provides injured and/or orphaned wildlife with a temporary safe heaven, before releasing them back to their natural habitat. The Shelter accepts animal’s province wide and works in close conjunction with other shelters. We specialize in carnivores (mainly bears) and ungulates (moose & deer) but accepts all mammals and birds. Birds typically are forwarded to other shelters that specialize in their care. The Society is actively involved in a number of research projects and is also active in public education about peaceful co-existence with wildlife. In 2007 NLWS started the first official Grizzly Rehab program in the world in cooperation with the BC Government. A total of 8 grizzly cubs have been rehabilitated so far and are being monitored via GPS collars. Currently 29 black bear cubs and 3 grizzlies are in our care and funding to house and care for them are needed as well as funding for post release GPS monitoring collars.

COPE Service Dogs

COPE Service Dogs helps high school students at risk of leaving school before graduation stay in school through a structured credit program and the use of service dogs in training. The program is unique in Canada through its use of dogs to help students learn. Students enrolled in the program help elementary school students reading below grade level or having trouble with mathematics and visit seniors in hospitals and nursing homes. The service dogs once trained are assigned to a life partner with a mobility disability. Ninety-eight per cent of those enrolled graduate and continue their education or find gainful employment. Testimonials speak to its life altering impact on the students, their families and communities. A gift to COPE is an investment in our youth’s future.

PITBULLS FOR LIFE FOUNDATION OF ALBERTA

Pit Bulls for Life takes pride in knowing that all dogs adopted have absolutely NO human aggression and have little to no animal aggression. All dogs and potential adopters are carefully screened to ensure dogs are placed in their forever home.  The foundation is completely volunteer-based and relies heavily on foster homes and donations. As we do not have a shelter for our rescued pit bulls we are limited to the number of dogs we are able to take in at any one time. If you are interested in fostering, volunteering or donating please contact us.

Kindred Community Farm Sanctuary (formally SALI's Farm)

SALI's Farm is a safe haven for at-risk children and rescued animals to bond, learn, and heal with one another. SALI's Farm utilizes animal-assisted and horticultural activities that help abused and neglected children heal emotionally from trauma. Abused and neglected animals are given a permanent home. Our goal is to help children and animals heal and help break the cycle of violence. SALI's Guardian Program provides for the needs of companion animals of women & children fleeing violence, isolated seniors, and people living in poverty and on the street. SALI believes that all members of our community deserve the love and support of pets, especially our most vulnerable. TORONTO CAT RESCUE

Toronto Cat Rescue (TCR) is a network of foster homes and volunteers. We are often the last or only hope for a homeless, abandoned, sick or injured cat. Since 1994, TCR has been helping cats to escape situations of abuse, neglect, or euthanasia at a shelter. There are numerous stray cats in and around Toronto. Through a program of spaying/neutering, fostering and adoption, TCR works to reduce this number in a humane and compassionate manner.
