Friends For Animals Humane Society Of Burke County

FFA provides immediate refuge and shelter to animals that have been abandoned by their owners and/or turned in to the local animal control facility where, if not claimed, are euthanized. We have a contract with Animal Control in that animals kept after 5 days may be released to our shelter if room permits so that they may be advertised for adoption. We also campaign vigorously and provide community information that strongly emphasizes the value and need for animal spaying/neutering. We remain committed to one ultimate goal: that no adoptable animal will be euthanized in Burke County and that we will promote the value of spaying/neutering whenever and wherever possible. FFA is a 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization. There are no state mandates in Burke County.

Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland Inc

The Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland strives to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome senior dogs. We will provide a permanent safe haven if the dog is not adopted. Many of the dogs that come through our doors were unable to be cared for by their owners, were abandoned or abused, or faced euthanasia. We opened in 2016 and have had over 700 dogs adopted out. We provide the medical care needed by each senior dog, including a full senior panel, and whatever care is needed up to and including surgery. Almost every senior dog needs a dental upon arrival. We spend, on average, $3,000 per dog. Our goal is to give them a second chance at life in a loving home. We want them to be as healthy as possible. We provide medication and most of the dogs are required to have prescription dog food to help with their medical conditions. We have a brick and mortar facility with kennels and a quarantine building. Our small but dedicated staff, as well as our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs and provide enrichment activities to keep them engaged. We also have a foster and hospice program so that the dogs can live in a home environment whenever possible. We give dogs with behavioral issues training to help them become more adoptable. We have also initiated a Seniors 2 Seniors Program to help senior citizens keep their pets by providing free dog and cat food. Thank you for considering the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland.

Pet Helpers

We are dedicated to ending the senseless euthanasia of all adoptable dogs and cats of the Lowcountry in South Carolina by providing a safe, loving environment for them until they are adopted. Our Adoption Center has an average intake of 2000 companion animals each year. We work with open admission shelters in the surrounding 6 counties to help with saving the lives of the animals that find themselves abandoned. We also work with owners who feel that their is no other option but to give their companion animal to us to find their next home. Our Community Spay/Neuter Clinic is NSRT certified through Humane Alliance. We uphold high standards of medical care for our shelter animals and the low cost services we provide to our community. Through grants and donations we are able to provide the public with financial assistance for spay/neuter and preventive care including vaccines. Our continued participation in humane education programs and preserving the welfare and rights of animals by pursuing animal cruelty prosecution and initiating animal welfare legislation will be part of our mission and advocacy for the animals of the Lowcountry.
