Minnesota-based K9s From Carrie is a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States to shine light on mental health awareness through education and the pairing of individuals with dogs to help manage mental illness and reduce suicide. We believe people of all ages and backgrounds suffering from mental illness deserve respect and support rather than embarrassment and shame. Our primary objective is to provide support to people in mental health crisis by sponsoring the purchase and training of emotional support dogs. We do this by 1) pairing a physically and emotionally sound dog with individuals as well as sponsoring obedience and emotional support training to that dog, and by 2) sponsoring obedience and emotional support training for an existing dog belonging to an individual or family. K9s From Carrie also promotes mental health and suicide prevention awareness through events and speaking engagements.

Service Dogs of Virginia's mission is to raise and train exceptional dogs and match them with individuals with disabilities in Virginia to create greater freedom and independence. Service Dogs of Virginia trains dogs in the following areas: Physical Assistance - these dogs are trained to assist people in wheelchairs with tasks such as opening doors, picking up items, getting the phone, and so much more. Autism Service - these dogs are trained to assist autistic children and their families by preventing children from impulsively running off, facilitating easier transitions from one activity to the next, assisting with social interactions, improving communication, and more. Diabetic Alert - these dogs are trained to alert owners to low blood glucose thereby helping to prevent short-term health consequences such as passing out or having seizures, as well as long-term consequences such as early death, loss of limbs and blindness that result from uncontrolled blood sugar swings. Amazingly, a well-trained dog is more reliable than available technology for "brittle" diabetics. We only place service dogs with clients who live in Virginia as both dogs and people require periodic "tune ups." When a program is geographically inaccessible, people go without help reducing the effectiveness of their canine helpmates. SDV makes a commitment to provide ongoing training and support for each individual with which it places a dog. If an individual's needs change, SDV provides additional training to customize their dog's commands and tasks. This ongoing relationship also provides us the opportunity to observe each dog's progress and to ensure it is being utilized to its maximum benefit. Education - In addition to the above programs, we consider educating the general public about service dogs an important adjunct program. From speaking to a wide variety of groups to having open houses and other public events, SDV staff and volunteers inform people about the importance of service dogs, their training, and their impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities.
JOSEPHINE'S RATTERY & RESCUE'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE LOVE, CARE, AND SHELTER TO SURRENDERED AND RESCUED POCKET-PETS THAT ARE UNDER-SERVED IN OUR COMMUNITY. OUR GOALS ARE TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE LOVE AND COMPANIONSHIP THAT ALTERNATIVE PETS PROVIDE AND INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT HEALTH WARNING SIGNS TO PROPERLY CARE FOR AND HOUSE SMALL PETS SO THEY ARE HAPPY AND HEALTHY. WE ARE BASED IN WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. WE TRAVEL ALL OVER SOUTH FLORIDA TO PICK-UP AND ADOPT OUT PETS. WE HAVE ADOPTERS IN KEY WEST, NAPLES, TAMPA, ORLANDO, AND JACKSONVILLE. WE SPECIALIZE IN THE CARE OF AND EDUCATION ABOUT RATTUS NORVEGICUS (NORWAY RATS); HOWEVER, IN SOUTH FLORIDA IF YOUR PET IS UNUSUAL, SUCH AS A CHINCHILLA, SUGAR GLIDER, HAMSTER, GERBIL, RAT, MOUSE, FERRET, BUNNY, OR GUINEA PIG, THERE ARE VERY FEW SAFE PLACES TO SURRENDER. SO WE WENT FROM A RAT RESCUE TO A SMALL ANIMAL RESCUE; BASICALLY NO CATS, DOGS, OR BIRDS. WE EVEN TAKE IN REPTILES, BUT THAT IS BECAUSE WE KNOW THE PRESIDENT OF THE HERPETOLOGICAL SOCIETY (WHO THINKS OUR AMBASSADORS ARE AWESOME) AND HE HELPS BY CARING FOR SURRENDERED REPTILES. WHEN IT COMES TO SMALL PETS, JOSEPHINE'S BELIEVES HEALING THEIR WOUNDS AND PROVIDING THEM SHELTER AND SECURITY IS AS IMPORTANT TO AS IT WOULD BE FOR ANY OTHER MORE COMMON PET. WE CARE FOR THE SMALL AND DISENFRANCHISED.. THE UNDERVALUED PRAY ANIMALS DOMESTICATED OVER 150 YEARS AGO .. SO LONG AGO THAT THEY ARE VULNERABLE AND COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON US FOR THEIR SAFETY AND WELL-BEING. JOSEPHINE'S IS JUST LIKE THE ANIMALS THEY ADVOCATE FOR. SMALL BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF HEART AND PASSION FOR WHAT WE ARE DOING. WE HOPE TO CHANGE MINDS AWAY FROM THE SIGMAS ABOUT RATS AND OTHER ANIMALS. SO MANY PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE HOW SOCIAL THEY ARE AND HOW MUCH LOVE AND CARE THEY NEED AND GIVE BACK. THIS IS A DIFFERENT AND WONDERFUL WORLD.
