VARIETY - THE CHILDREN'S CHARITY OF BC, TENT 47

We are a federally registered, provincially incorporated children's charitable society raising money to support BC’s children with special needs. Since 1965, Variety - The Children's Charity of BC has raised over $140 million and returned it to BC’s special needs children and their community organizations, province wide. This provides funding for over 2000 children’s organizations as well as to families who have a child with special needs.

VICTORIA CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC

Founded in 1964, the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) has an outstanding reputation for quality in education, performance and music therapy. As a music school for the whole community, the VCM has 137 faculty members & welcomes over 2,000 students of all ages and musical abilities. This multiple emphasis gives the VCM the unique ability to touch a broad range of people in our community: from pre-school aged children to seniors, beginning students to those who aspire to a professional career, the musically gifted as well as those with developmental or physical challenges. Housed in a magnificent heritage building in downtown Victoria, the VCM is considered an artistic jewel of the city and is one of Canada’s most unique musical spaces. It boasts three incredible performance venues for students, faculty and guest artists. The Alix Goolden Performance Hall (AGPH) seats 800 and is home to the new VCM Presents Concert Series; Wood Hall and Metro Theatre seat 115 and 225 respectively.

VIDEA

VIDEA facilitates communication, cooperation and strategic networking among Canadian groups working for global justice, peace and sustainable development; supports community to community connections with rural parts of Africa; creates globally focused learning resources; promotes fair trade initiatives; and works in partnership with African organizations such as the WHEAT Trust in South Africa, Women for Change in Zambia, and Mpambo, the African Multiversity, in Uganda, to support development initiatives focused on women’s economic empowerment, community development and education. VIDEA’s Breakthrough for Africa project supports the creation at a community level of sustaining linkages between Canadian and African communities. The Kelowna-Zambia Partnership and the Nelson Kaoma Alliance are part of VIDEA’s Breakthrough for Africa project.

WEST HANTS HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The West Hants Historical Society is based in Windsor, Nova Scotia, where it runs a seasonal museum as well as a genealogy department that is open year-round. In addition, the society provides summer guide service at the Fort Edward Blockhouse. The society is based in Windsor, Nova Scotia, at 281 King Street, the location of its museum and genealogy room. It is run almost entirely by volunteers. Although the WHHS receives a large portion of its funding through grants, it also supports itself through publishing, its research library and fundraising.

WOLFVILLE L'ARCHE HOMEFIRES SOCIETY

L'Arche Homefires is located in Wolfville, NS and is part of the worldwide network of L'Arche communities. We have been supporting adults living with developmental disabilities since 1981. We are a community made up of five homes, a weaving and candlemaking workshop, a day program and a retirement program. We focus very much on developing relationships that reveal the unique value and vocation of each community member.

WORKING SKILLS CENTRE

Located in an easily accessible building at Yonge & Eglinton, WSC has established a business environment which provides immigrants with Canadian workplace experience, settlement counselling and referrals to needed services, technical skills training in accounting and office administration, and bridge-to-work programs. Client feedback is extremely positive, relected in the fact that the majority of referrals are word of mouth from satisfied customers. The agency works in collaboration with other organzations serving women, immigrants and the unemployed including several umbrella groups and Memorandums of Understanding with other programs to ensure that clients receive all needed services. A donation of just $10.00 per month = a subsidy for an isolated woman to take a needed skills upgrade; A donation of just $500 = a subsidy for a newcomer to enrol in Diploma program and receive Canadian credentials; A donation of just $200 = career exploration and work placement services

YMCA of Eastern Ontario

Our objective is to expand our YMCA in order to assist our community with providing enhanced family-based recreational opportunities for Kingston area residents. Specifically, our project will: 1. Increase the capacity of our community to offer water-based activities for all ages. 2. Enhance our ability to deliver quality learn-to-swim programs for both able-bodied individuals and children with physical and intellectual disabilities. 3. Update and expand our current recreation-focused programs for families and individuals looking to be physically active.
