Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society

Discovery House is a second stage shelter established to address the social issue of family violence in Calgary. We provide long-term shelter, intervention, education and professional counselling for families who are victims of abuse. Our goal is that families have an increased capacity and support for living a safe and harmonious life in the community. We achieve this by restoring self-esteem, teaching strategies for personal safety, and developing problem-solving skills with our residential and outreach clients.

CHRISTIAN LIFE COMMUNITY CANADA

Christian Life Communities are small groups of people who are striving for a deeper spirituality that helps them find God in all things. Each local CLC community belongs to a regional, national and international community of Christian men and women, young and old, of all social conditions, who have a desire to find the voice of God in and through the ordinary events of each day. The spirituality of CLC is inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and is the specific source of its charisma. Members focus on increasing their awareness of being created and loved by God, as well as fostering their desire to work as a companion of Jesus to continue his mission in the world.

COQUITLAM SEARCH AND RESCUE SOCIETY

Coquitlam SAR is a Volunteer Search and Rescue team based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Operating under the Provincial Emergency Program and tasked by local law enforcement and emergency personnel, we are responsible for inland water, wilderness and urban search and rescue in an area bounded by Indian Arm on the west, Pitt Lake on the east, Garibaldi Park to the north, and the Fraser River to the south. This primary area is over 1000km² and includes some of the most rugged and inaccessible terrain in the southwest region of the Province of British Columbia. We also provide assistance to residents during natural disasters such as floods, forest fires, and earthquakes, and respond to requests for mutual aid from other SAR teams in the BC, and in Washington State to the south. The team consists of 45 active members who conduct about 50 searches, over 60 training days and many community education appearances annually.

National and Ottawa offices focus on peaceful conflict resolution, the prevention of violence and consensus building through youth-led initiatives. Through training workshops, forums and national conferences we provide youth with the skills and knowledge to make a real difference in our communities. Edmonton staff work with at-risk youth, helping them move out of harm's way. We believe that nothing stops youth violence like education or employment. The youth we work with come from difficult backgrounds. Our job is to show youth that change is possible. Our Relentless Youth Workers empower youth to take ownership of their lives. We are in it for the long haul. For more please visit our website at www.youcan.ca.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF QUINTE

The CDCQ is committed to supporting individuals and their families as they work to gain control over their food security needs. We do this by coordinating self-help food programs, all of which help families to stretch their food dollar, reduce their food costs and meet the food needs of their family members. The Good Baby Box Program is the most popular of all the self-help programs we support as we aim to ensure all infants in the region have access to healthy, nutritious foods from early in life. The Good Food Box program is another self-help food program. Participants can purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at a "much lower than retail" cost. This helps them to stretch their food dollar and have a healthier diet. The CDC focuses much of its resources towards community development and social research activities that identify and respond to urgent and emerging social issues. Research products can be accessed without cost via our website: www.cdcquinte.com
