Chalice Canada

We are currently working in 46 sponsor sites in 15 developing countries, and our sponsorship program is benefiting over 42,000 children and elderly who are trapped in the cycle of poverty. As a Catholic charity, we believe that Christ's loving care for the poor and suffering is an essential element of His teaching to His followers. We place a special emphasis on helping to provide children with the chance to go to school and learn, believing that education is a key to breaking the cycle of poverty and providing better opportunities for a brighter future. We work closely with lay people, religious missionaries and local communities in their efforts to provide care for the many children and aged caught in the dehumanizing grip of extreme poverty and lack of education. Those accepted into the sponsorship programme are received based on need with no regard for gender, race or religious affiliation.

Legacy of Hope Foundation

From the early 1830s to 1998, thousands of First Nation, Inuit and Métis children were forced to attend residential schools in an attempt to assimilate them into the dominant culture. Those children suffered abuses of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit that can be almost unimaginable. Over 150,000 children, some as young as four years old, attended the government-funded and church-run residential schools. It is estimated that there are 80,000 residential school Survivors alive today. We develop innovative, unique, and effective educational programming on residential schools and the long-term effects they have on Survivors, their families, and their communities. Accessed by hundreds of thousands of Canadians, these resources include websites, travelling exhibitions, secondary school curriculum, and an oral history collection of Survivor testimony.

Art City in St. James Town

Art City in St. James Town opened its doors on December 2000 as a not-for-profit organization committed to providing after school art programs to children of elementary school age. The art programs are intended to foster creative thinking and nurture self-esteem and personal accomplishment. The studio is in a storefront space located beneath a high-rise apartment complex. It is highly visible and accessible. The space provides a safe non-discriminatory environment, dedicated to providing opportunities for the young people of St. James Town. We invite input and feedback from the parents, caregivers and other community members that influence and participate in the everyday lives of these children.

BRITISH COLUMBIA LAW INSTITUTE

The British Columbia Law Institute was created in January 1997 by incorporation under the Provincial Society Act. It is the effective successor to the British Columbia Law Reform Commission which ceased operations that year. BCLI carries out scholarly research, writing and analysis for law reform, collaborating with government and other entities, and providing materials and support for outreach and public information. In 2003 BCLI created the Canadian Centre for Elder Law (CCEL) as a vehicle to carry forward its work in relation to legal issues affecting seniors. CCEL is a response to the need in Canada for a body that has a dedicated focus on this area to facilitate the development of Elder Law as a coherent body of knowledge. The Evangelical Christian Church in Canada (Christian Disciples), as a Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement in Canada, traces its historic roots to the formal organization of the Christian Church in 1804 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, U.S.A., and in 1810 near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada under the leadership of Barton Warren Stone (1772-1844), a former Presbyterian minister. The Stone Movement later merged with the efforts of Thomas Campbell (1763-1854) and his son Alexander Campbell (1788-1866) to become the Restoration Movement that gave birth to the Churches of Christ (Non-Instrumental), the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Support Means Success Autism Nova Scotia supports individuals with autism, their families, educators, healthcare professionals and researchers. We provide information materials, research assistance and a friendly atmosphere to support our members in their desire to understand autism. With an improved understanding, they can make informed decisions for a positive impact on their own lives or the person in their care with autism. By providing parents and people with autism with information that can help them seek more effective therapy and support options, a teacher with a strategy that can foster better inclusion in the classroom, or an autistic adult with leads to an employment opportunity, greater successes for individuals with autism and their caregivers can be achieved. HALTON LEARNING FOUNDATION

Halton Learning Foundation's objective is to raise charitable funds to remove economic barriers to learning for students in need and support school initiatives. As each has its own community, students and families, fundraising revenues generated within a school varies from school to school. In a number of communities, school council/parents are unable to raise any significant amount of money to help with additional purchases above and beyond core education funding. Funds raised by the Halton Learning Foundation are available to help schools that need additional assistance. Funds raised by the Foundation are directed to eliminating barriers to learning for students and classroom enrichment; not to administration or capital projects. The Halton Learning Foundation is incorporated as a registered charity and as an independent body collaborating with the Halton District School Board. The Halton District School Board has over 50,000 students and 95 schools in Halton Region.

VIETNAM EDUCATION SOCIETY

The Vietnam Education Society was established in 2005 to raise funds to cover the cost of construction for new preschools and primary schools in rural Vietnam. Local authorities manage and operate the facilities, which are inspected by VES and our partner, East Meets West, on a regular basis. VES opened its first school in Vietnam in June 2007, a ten room school that serves close to 400 students in the small community of Cat Ne, Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam. A multipurpose room and early childhood development centre were added to the school. Since that time, VES has built three other schools and is currently (Spring 2013) working on plans for the fifth facility. VES also works with the Pacific Links Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping stop human trafficking along the border regions in Vietnam. VES provides 40 scholarships for at risk girls and sponsors a summer camp to provide these girls with support and life skills

The Children's Book Bank

The Children's Book Bank provides free books and literacy support to low- income children in the greater Toronto area from its storefront location in Regent Park. The Children’s Book Bank is like a magical children’s bookstore, except that books are given free of charge to children and their families. We believe that book ownership is essential to early literacy and a life-long love of reading. Unfortunately, studies show that many low-income families cannot afford to purchase books. At the same time, many families and organizations have quality children’s books that they no longer need. Our organization connects demand and supply to ensure that all children can experience the joy, dignity and enrichment associated with book ownership.
