St. Benedict’s prepares young men to fulfill their potential as emotionally mature, morally responsible and well-educated young men. St. Benedict’s Prep is devoted to preparing boys in and around Newark to navigate this critical time of transition. At the core of our philosophy is a rich tradition of family, leadership and excellence. Operated by the Benedictine monks of Newark Abbey since 1868, St. Benedict’s offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that sharpens the mind, shapes the character and nourishes the spirit. Because many of our students have faced significant challenges related to chronic poverty and racism, St. Benedict’s emphasizes building a supportive community as much as academic excellence.

Nestled in the nation’s capital in the richest museum complex in the world is the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center, a model early childhood program that places children at the center of every experience. The vast collections are the foundation for the culturally diverse curriculum, which offers a rare opportunity for learning. As an organization, SEEC is a leader in the field of museum-based education and influences practice within museums and schools. Our educators apply best practices recognized in the early childhood field and enrich the children’s learning through an object-based approach to teaching, sharing the rich stories associated with these objects in ways that make the curriculum deeper and richer. Museum educators within the program build on the practice established within the SEEC model, serving as content experts on the museums and blending theory and practice as a basis for outside consulting and professional development.
Since our founding in 2006, our mission has been the same: Leveling the Playing Field for young refugees. Through a commitment to education and high expectations, both in the classroom and on the pitch, we’ve impacted the lives of hundreds of refugee families. With humble beginnings as an after-school soccer program, we have grown to encompass multiple campuses in two states. Our model is unique: Our students, 100% refugee and ranging from 6th through 12th grade, receive full scholarships to attend Fugees Academies. With the backing of thousands of individuals and businesses our students are given all the tools they need to find success in their new homes, preventing the cycle of poverty from beginning again.
