At Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario, volunteers and staff are committed to helping guest families in an atmosphere filled with hope and support, providing much more than just comfortable and affordable accommodation. While the cost to the House of accommodating a family for one night is more than $75, families are asked to contribute just $10 a night. No family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Keeping things so affordable certainly goes a long way toward helping to ease the financial stress of families who discover they must be in the core of a major urban centre for what could be many weeks or months. Imagine the cost of a hotel room and many other daily living expenses incurred, while mortgage or rent and car payments continue to mount up back home. Our extensive services - which include seasonal events, family dinners, laundry, computer and internet access – ensure that all members of the family are supported during an extremely stressful time.

Guelph Food Bank was established by Spiritwind Christian Centre in 1989. Food Bank clients vary in age, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, but they have one thing in common they are all faced with financial hardship. Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta is one of 12 Houses across Canada and one of 254 around the world. The Southern Alberta House is a non-profit organization owned and operated by the Southern Alberta Pediatric Hostel Society.

The Stop’s work is based on the belief that food is a basic human right. Each year over 14,000 people access our centre for food, social support and advocacy. Although not often attracting the kind of attention it deserves, the hunger crisis in Toronto is severe. A recent study of our food bank members showed that 51% of them go hungry at least once a week. This inability to consistently access food translates into problems such as poor health and social isolation -- issues that ultimately affect us all as a society. While The Stop is probably best known for its food bank, we also run breakfast and lunch programs, offer pre- and postnatal nutrition and support, facilitate group cooking classes and grow food in a local park and greenhouse for many of our programs. The Stop is a vibrant place that is a well-respected leader in the food security sector.

St. Mary’s General Hospital is an adult acute-care facility.As a 191-bed community hospital, we embrace progress and change while maintaining our commitment to the mission and vision of our founder’s. We offer a full range of patient services that focus on enhanced patient care and the health care needs of our community. We are home to the Regional Cardiac Care Centre and also offer emergency medicine, spiritual care, counselling, and treatment of sexual assault and domestic violence. Approximately 87% of surgeries done at St. Mary's are performed on a same-day basis using the most advanced minimally-invasive techniques. By investing in St. Mary’s, you can support the development of a healthier community. We now perform over 32,000 surgeries per year. Our medical staff continue to bring the gifts of hope and healing to your family, your neighbours and your friends.

A strong community needs great health care close to home. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Foundation supports the Health Centre’s remarkable physicians and staff as they take care of our community. Donations support facility renovations to our patient care areas. For example, support from donors helped build a new wing that opened in 2012. Donors also help purchase essential medical equipment, like a new endo-bronchial ultrasound that pinpoints lung cancer, and funds training for our dedicated health care professionals. Current priorities include renovating our patient spaces like lounges and waiting areas to make the more comfortable for patients and families; building a new Dialysis Centre; and building and equipping two new Interventional Suites in our Diagnostic Imaging department.

St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation is known for building lasting, mutually rewarding partnerships that enable St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, a multi-campus, teaching hospital, to provide the best in compassionate patient care and innovative medical research. In June 2011, the Foundation publicly launched Timeless Care, Tomorrow’s Discoveries – The Campaign for St. Joseph’s Healthcare, which will raise $75 million to support three vital projects at the hospital: the opening of a state-of-the-art surgical centre on the Charlton Campus; the creation of a new integrated mental health and medical care facility on the West 5th Campus; and the funding of vital healthcare research at St. Joe’s. These projects will touch the lives of two million Ontarians who live in the region served by St. Joseph’s.

In the past year, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, assisted approximately 28,000 neighbours in Waterloo Region. Yearly, The Food Bank distributes over 3 million pounds of food to community individuals who are facing challenging circumstances. Food is distributed through a partnership of 76 member agencies and community programs which provide emergency food hampers and meals. The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is a registered charitable organization. The Society offers a variety of quality education and support services designed to meet the different needs of persons with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia and their network of caregivers. These include: - Information Service - Supportive Counselling - Community Referral - Caregiver Support Groups - Support Group for Persons with Alzheimer's disease - Caregiver Education - Professional and Public Education The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County relies on the generosity of the community to achieve its goals. Lakeridge Health invests in equipment to pinpoint and treat health problems quickly and accurately to meet the healthcare needs of Durham Region families. Our medical professionals deliver the quality health care our families have come to expect by using the latest technology. Lakeridge Health is always in need of new equipment and depends entirely on community support to get it. Not many people know that the Provincial Government covers only operating costs of hospitals but does not fund the purchase of equipment. This is why donations from the community are so important. By investing in new technology used in patient care, your contributions go a long way in helping our families, neighbours and friends continue to get the best healthcare possible. Trillium Health Partners Foundation was created following the amalgamation of The Trillium Health Centre Foundation and The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation in July, 2013. Together, as one foundation, we are raising the critical funds needed for pan-hospital and site specific initiatives. Whether we focus our support at one site, on one project, on research or on one piece of equipment, the combined impact affects the entire hospital system and the community that it serves.
