The BKFA works with organisations and communities to provide a clean birthing environment for women in developing countries in order to reduce the incidence of infant and maternal mortality. We respect peoples' dignity and values and work according to principles of basic human rights. We raise awareness, provide support and resources and act as a catalyst for the creation of birth attendant training programmes and community development projects.

We founded Rafiki Ya Maisha to provide vocational training to unemployed young people & women in need, who have no secondary education nor access to trade schools in rural Western Kenya. This forgotten group of youths gets material assistance for acquiring life skills through our small college in Chepkanga. This village empowerment endeavor has components in conservation, health, culture, micro-finance, counseling, brick making. We are building a larger polytechnic center to serve Sergoit area.

Who We Are The Foundation for Women's Health, Research and Development - FORWARD - is an African Diaspora women's campaign and support charity (registered in the UK). We exist to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights as central to the wellbeing of African women and girls. We work with individuals, communities and organisations to transform harmful practices and improve the quality of life of vulnerable girls and women. FORWARD was established in 1983 in the UK, in response to the emerging problems caused by female genital mutilation being seen by health professionals. Since this time FORWARD has been working to eliminate the practice and provide support to women affected by FGM. At our twenty year review FORWARD formally incorporated into its mandate other issues allied to Female Genital Mutilation, in particular vesico-vagina and recto-vagina fistulae and child and forced marriage. To improve the quality of life of children, young people and women living in the slum through the provision of quality education, affordable housing, health care and socio economic empowerment Akili Girls Preparatory School strives to provide underprivileged girls in Kisumu County with affordable quality education that will help them to break the cycle of poverty. The project goal is to generate sufficient income through focussing on horticulture, poultry, dairy cows, and renewable energy systems so as to meet educational, nutritional and medical support needs of the girls we support. This project aims to support at least 200 orphans and vulnerable girls between 3 and 14 years by the year 2020. The primary target group are girls from the lowest income populations, particularly those who are affected by the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Obunga slum and Obambo village in Kisumu County. We will enroll 5 fee paying students in every class to enable parents who are able to pay fees to participate in the education of needy girls. The strategy we have adopted to provide quality education to these girls is through the establishment of a boarding school known as Akili Girls Preparatory School which will provide holistic education that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of the girls while creating dignity through self-reliance
