Soup and Socks e.V.

The goal of Soup and Socks e.V. is to stand in solidarity with refugees by supporting and empowering them. We aim to create dignified responses to people's needs after they fled their countries to foster self-determination. Our vision is a world in which every person has equal access to society and equal opportunities to realise their potential. Our mission is to provide platforms for people who fled their countries to get active; spaces where they can get rid of labels that stigmatise them, where they themselves can create solutions that immediately improve their living conditions, where they transform from the excluded into the experts of tomorrow, where they make first steps of integration. In order to live this mission, the organisation set up the intercultural maker space Habibi.Works in the North of Greece in August 2016. Habibi.Works is a platform for education, empowerment and encounters for refugees from nearby camps and for Greek locals. The 11 workshop areas (Community Kitchen, Wood Workshop, Metal Workshop, Barber Shop, Bike Repair Station, Sewing Atelier, Creative Atelier, Media Lab with 3D printers, laser cutter and VR, Gym, Library and Community Garden) are run by an international team of experts and allow the users to get active and creative, to share skills and experience, to prove their talents and unfold their potential.

URIDU

How To Save Millions Of Lives With A Simple MP3 Player The solar-powered device developed by URIDU is used to provide health education to illiterate rural women in developing countries Every six seconds a child under five dies. Almost all of those deaths occur in developing countries - and most of them are entirely preventable. Millions of lives could be saved just by providing illiterate rural mothers with accessible health education. Unfortunately, bringing this knowledge to remote locations has so far been an enormous challenge for both governments and NGOs. A new project is tackling that problem with a groundbreaking solution based on solar-powered MP3 players. The so-called MP3forLife Player has been developed by URIDU (www.uridu.org), a German non-profit social enterprise. Each player contains more than 400 carefully selected answers to questions about health, nutrition, family planning, child care, work safety and many more topics. All texts are translated with the help of more than 10.000 volunteers from over 100 countries who participate in a unique crowdsourcing effort. Once the information has been translated it is recorded by a native speaker of the target language. Local NGOs are taking care of distributing MP3forLife Players free of charge to women in need. We conceived the MP3forLife Player for small group listening - it fosters discussion, exchange and group building", explains Felicitas Heyne, psychologist and founder of URIDU. We want to provide basic knowledge to illiterate rural women, but we also want to create a team spirit among them. They are key to positive change in their countries. Wherever women are empowered, a favorable spiral is set in motion. Health and education improve, populations stabilize, economies grow." The MP3forLife approach has been successfully implemented in Tanzania in co-ordination with the national Ministry for Health and Social Welfare. Further East African countries are following the example. About URIDU: URIDU is a German non-profit social enterprise that empowers rural women in developing countries using solar-powered MP3 players and mobile-friendly web content. The organization's website at www.uridu.org contains additional information.

Visions for Children e.V.

Worldwide, around 60 million children have no access to primary education and roughly 387 million children are unable to acquire basic skills, despite attending school (Global Education Monitoring Report, UNESCO, 2017). It is our vision to create a world in which every child can read and write. Since 2006, Visions for Children e.V. has been committed to ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to obtain a basic education with which they can acquire basic skills. We particularly build on and contribute to the fourth sustainability goal of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 - namely to ensure an equitable and high-quality education. We believe schools to be anchor points that give children the chance of a self-determined future by means of capacity building within the entire region.

Fondazione L'Unione Europea Berlin

The Foundation L'Unione Europea Berlin develops initiatives in the field of peace work and peace research, international understanding and cultural understanding across national borders. The Foundation promotes initiatives and projects to support the diversity of cultural wealth, prosperity and - associated with this - the maintenance of lasting peace in the spirit of European unification at regional level and regardless of nation-state allocation. The Foundation promotes dialogue for peace and tolerance, in particular through joint encounters between young people from European and non-European regions. The Foundation sees its activities in the awareness that young people, if they can freely shape their future and live and work in any place in Europe, can develop a living basis for mutual understanding that can be experienced on a daily basis: the true human wealth in the diversity of culture in Europe, which is also sustainably shaped by influences outside Europe. The Nonoproject is a project for schools in European regions. The name for the project is related to the Italian composer Luigi Nono, who composed the choral work Il canto sospeso in 1956. Nono has written Il canto sospeso (Floating Vocals) based on farewell letters composed by young people, who were murdered by the National Socialists. He took them from the book "Lettere di condannati a morte della Resistenza Europea".
