Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by changing the first 1,000 days of a child's life. We work with our families living below the poverty line from pregnancy through the child’s third birthday. We believe in tackling poverty neighborhood by neighborhood and empowering the mamas. Community matters- particularly when you are a new immigrant mama. Knowledge matters- particularly when you didn’t have strong role models growing up.Books matter – particularly when you don’t have any in your home. Food matters – it is hard to learn and focus if you are hungry. We get it. We see it every day. We are changing it - day by day, child by child, neighborhood by neighborhood.

A family made from years of former foster youth and adoptees coming together to fulfill our mission of raising awareness and actively working to improve the child welfare system. How do we do that? By only employing former foster and adoptive youth; By partnering adults with young people in our work; By facilitating child welfare trainings for youth, professionals, and families; and By teaching adult professionals how to better advocate for young people through skills-building workshops.

Losing a beloved spouse is one of life's most difficult experiences, regardless of your financial circumstances. But for some, it can be financially devastating. Widows work with a financial advisor to address all the practical matters and they receive personalized care from a widow-volunteer who has been down the same path. We help new widows navigate the financial and legal complexities of early widowhood. We empower new widows to gain control over their finances to smooth the transition from heartbreak and loss to a future of hope and possibility. Emotional healing after a loss is tied to financial well-being. The sooner a widow can gain control over her financial situation, the sooner she is likely to take control of the other parts of her life.
