THE CHILDREN'S SAFETY VILLAGE OF BRANT

The Children’s Safety Village of Brant is a place where children currently enrolled in elementary school can learn the fundamentals of safety and awareness. Programs such as fire prevention, smoke alarms, traffic safety, bicycle and helmet, internet safety, home alone safety and stranger awareness are taught. The Safety Village serves Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations. In the Fire Prevention training program, after the in-class training, children are encouraged to identify various fire hazards found in Sparky’s apartment. Children are encouraged to demonstrate the skills that they have learned in the police training class in a miniature town that is complete with sidewalks, roadways, street signs, traffic lights, and a working railway crossing. The children navigate their way through the village by foot, on bicycles or in small battery operated jeeps.

Carpenter Hospice

Since opening in May 2002, Carpenter Hospice has served more than 1,800 residents who have ranged in age from 21 to 103 years. We support people from our community with all types of terminal illness such as cancer and ALS. Our services also extend beyond residential care to our Wellness Program and Bereavement Support Program. The opportunity to come and live at Carpenter Hospice is not based on financial ability and there is no user fee. The hospice is dependent on the generosity of the community and fundraising for the majority of its operation revenue. Carpenter Hospice raises $1.3 million each year; which provides us with the capacity to offer all of our services and programs at no cost to the end users. Every dollar makes a difference in allowing the hospice to provide the highest quality of care for our residents and program participants. Elisha House Pregnancy & Family Support Centre

Sometimes there are circumstances (physical, emotional, economic and timing) in which a woman is challenged by her pregnancy. Elisha House exists to help women explore their situation, to provide them with accurate information, practical guidance, encouragement and emotional support during and after the pregnancy. We recognize that the solutions to an unplanned pregnancy are not simple. We help each woman and anyone who may be directly involved with her pregnancy explore her situation and give counsel that will help her make a 'life affirming' decision. We are a Christian, non-profit, charitable organisation committed to providing hands-on assistance for the physical, social, mental and spiritual needs of those in crisis within our community. This loving care is declared and demonstrated by offering programmes and one-on-one support. Our goal is to provide accurate information and support to women, men and families who are challenged by a crisis pregnancy and related issues.

Legacy of Hope Foundation

From the early 1830s to 1998, thousands of First Nation, Inuit and Métis children were forced to attend residential schools in an attempt to assimilate them into the dominant culture. Those children suffered abuses of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit that can be almost unimaginable. Over 150,000 children, some as young as four years old, attended the government-funded and church-run residential schools. It is estimated that there are 80,000 residential school Survivors alive today. We develop innovative, unique, and effective educational programming on residential schools and the long-term effects they have on Survivors, their families, and their communities. Accessed by hundreds of thousands of Canadians, these resources include websites, travelling exhibitions, secondary school curriculum, and an oral history collection of Survivor testimony.
