The Human Rights Center "Memorial" is a self-governing public non-profit organization of citizens united by humanistic moral principles, striving to contribute to the protection of rights and the formation of civil dignity of people. The Center was created and operates in accordance with the norms of international law, the legislation of the Russian Federation and its own Charter. Memorial Human Rights Center is a member of the Memorial International Historical, Educational, Human Rights and Charitable Society. The Human Rights Center considers its mission to promote universal respect and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms - both in the Russian Federation and in other states. The Center pays special attention to the most serious and massive violations of these rights and freedoms. OVD-Info, www.ovdinfo.org, is an independent human rights media project aimed at monitoring cases of political persecution in Russia and providing legal assistance to victims of such persecution. OVD-Info was founded during the mass protests of December 2011, as a volunteer project with the purpose of giving publicity to information on arrests of protest participants. Today OVD-Info operates a 24-hour national hotline to collect information on all types of political persecution, to coordinate legal assistance to its victims, to provide legal education to activists, and to research different types of political persecution in Russia. OVD-Info is legally part of Memorial Human Rights Center Memorial with it's own governance.
